Olympic Torch To Pass Through Radcliffe-on-Trent

(Sourced from Rushcliffe Borough Council website)

People will be able to see the torchbearers running through Radcliffe on Trent at 4.42pm on Grantham Road (A52). The torch will travel from there down Bingham Road (passing Gatcombe Close, Cropwell Rd) and will continue into Main Road. The torch will continue on Main Road past Wharf Lane and The Green ending at St Lawrence Boulevard at 4.58pm. At this point the torch will be put back into the convoy and will be driven to Holme Pierrepoint.

The flame will then reappear as a spectacle with the torchbearer running along Radcliffe Road in West Bridgford at 5.46pm as it travels on its way towards Trent Bridge and into Nottingham for an evening celebration.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early in both places to enjoy musical entertainment, including a Samba band from South Notts Academy and on-street performers who will create a carnival atmosphere to give the torch a real Rushcliffe welcome.

Georgia Moore, chairman of Radcliffe-on-Trent Parish Council, said: “This is an incredible moment for Radcliffe on Trent. We are privileged to be chosen as one of the communities for the torch to travel through and we would like to encourage residents to come and celebrate this exciting occasion with us.”

The torchbearers confirmed to carry the Flame through Rushcliffe today include those that were successful through the public nomination processes run by LOCOG and the Presenting Partners, Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. LOCOG has endeavoured to slot all community Torchbearers within an hour of their nomination address so family and friends can cheer them on. Each Torchbearer will wear a white and gold uniform which been designed by Adidas.
I know one of the torchbearers – she is one of my business contacts – Claire Dickerson, the other 2 are Harry Clark from Dako Flying Angels (who are coming to the Carnival) and also another bloke called John.

Claire has raised lots of money for motor neurons – walked up Killamanjaro – and 28th June is the 4 year anniversary of her grandmother’s death from Motor Neurone’s – very poignant. She will have just given birth c 2-3weeks before too!!

Exhibition of West Bridgford Eco Houses

EcoHouses+Exhibition+21-1-12As part of the Eco Houses under Construction series, we have organised a FREE Exhibition on Saturday 21st January 2012 (10am-1pm) at St Paul’s Church Hall on Boundary Road in West Bridgford. To see to poster, click here.

The exhibition will showcase all the houses that have already featured in the Eco Houses under Construction series, with a few additional examples as well. From a solid wall home insulated with minimal disruption to the occupants, to full scale ultra low energy refurbishments and new builds, this is a sneak preview of the homes of the future.

It is a great chance to see the displays and talk to the home owners, architects and those who provided the products and services to create these low energy homes. And it is a one-off opportunity to compare the different projects while they are all represented under one roof.

The Eco Houses Under Construction project is funded by Climate East MidlandsEast Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership and Communities and Local Government with a Growing Climate Friendly Communities grant. It is overseen by the charity Groundwork East Midlands.

RadVentures hosts Pluck, the world’s funniest string trio!

The first RadVentures event of 2012 is on Thursday 8th March at Grange Hall, Radcliffe on Trent, where three classically trained, professional, exceptional musicians will create musical and comedy mayhem!

The trio, PLUCK, will compete, scheme, dance, argue and seduce their way through a fabulous mix of music, from Bach to The Beatles. The trio has played nationwide and enjoys on-going success at many music venues and events, including Edinburgh Festival.

The trio, two young gents and a handsome lady, present themselves as a hilariously incompetent trio.  They sublimely play their way through Brahms, Ravel and Vivaldi in a way that would have the composers laughing in their graves!

The combination of top quality musicianship, slick comedic timing and outstanding audience engagement guarantee and evening of fabulous music and memorable entertainment – with a great big grin!

RadVentures hosts professionals on tour and is a member of the National Rural Touring Scheme, which aims to bring professional entertainments out of the big cities into small, rural communities.

The East Midlands ‘Village Ventures’ initiative is generously sponsored in Nottinghamshire by Arts Council England, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Notts. County Council.
